This module is designed for experienced physiotherapists, nurses, or general practitioners working in musculoskeletal medicine who want to expand their knowledge and skills to manage patients with a range of musculoskeletal conditions. It aims to enable participants to undertake advanced assessments, including the use of diagnostic tools like radiographic imaging and laboratory investigations. The module is delivered over three full-day sessions, requiring attendance at all study days and a practical exam/viva.

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a skilled examination of the musculoskeletal system.
  • Critically evaluate the use of additional diagnostic tools in assessing patients with musculoskeletal pathologies.
  • Critically evaluate and utilize the available evidence base in relation to decision-making within musculoskeletal assessment.

  • Clinical assessment of musculoskeletal conditions

Assessment:


Assessment Strategy:

  • 20-minute subjective presentation (40%): Participants present a patient they have assessed, demonstrating a critical understanding of one component of the subjective examination.
  • A variety of tutors contribute to this module, including radiologists, consultant neurophysiologist, consultant rheumatologists, and other specialists in their fields.

Other:

  • The module is delivered over three full-day sessions.
  • Participants are expected to attend all study days and a practical exam/viva.
  • The module is recommended for those with a relevant first degree or relevant professional experience or qualifications demonstrating the ability to study at level seven.
  • Participants must have a minimum of one year post-registration experience and current registration with the relevant UK or equivalent professional body (HCPC or equivalent registration, e.g., GMC for doctors and NMC for nurses).
