Course Overview
The BSc Agriculture (Top-up) degree will provide a sound understanding of planning techniques for farm businesses, including how to construct fully detailed farm business plans. You will gain practical experience of acting as a consultant to the manager or owner of an agricultural enterprise or business, providing solutions to the real-life challenges facing them. You will also have the opportunity to specialise in livestock production, crop and grassland production or the agri-environment through a choice of optional modules.
Visits to farms, rural businesses and organisations involved in the regulation and management of the countryside will highlight the key issues at stake and enable you to see the practical business applications of your theoretical and academic learning.

Our graduates have achieved successful careers in many areas of agriculture and its related industries, including enterprise and farm management, animal health and nutrition, agricultural politics and administration, crop and grassland agronomy, as well as administrative, consultancy and sales careers with agricultural supply companies.
Teaching & Learning
You will witness the connection between research and analysis in agriculture and the impacts they have in the real world in the form of improved technology, crops and livestock production.
You will gain a sound understanding of business planning techniques and investment appraisal which will allow you to construct fully detailed farm business plans (including financial statements).
You will also become familiar with the role of the Farm Business Survey in comparative analysis and benchmarking - a tool which will be invaluable in your future employment situation, allowing you to compare your farm’s performance and profitability to other farms in the UK and EU.
Typical Entry Requirements
- UCAS Tariff: Normally must pass a Foundation Degree or HND in Agriculture or another appropriate subject area with an overall grade of Merit or above
- A Levels: Normally must pass a Foundation Degree or HND in Agriculture or another appropriate subject area with an overall grade of Merit or above
- GCSE requirements (minimum grade C/4): English or Welsh, Science and Mathematics
- BTEC National Diploma: Normally must pass a Foundation Degree or HND in Agriculture or another appropriate subject area with an overall grade of Merit or above
- International Baccalaureate: Normally must pass a Foundation Degree or HND in Agriculture or another appropriate subject area with an overall grade of Merit or above
- European Baccalaureate: Normally must pass a Foundation Degree or HND in Agriculture or another appropriate subject area with an overall grade of Merit or above
