Program Overview

MSc Economics, Finance and Management

Overview

Suitable for graduates of all degree subjects who have some quantitative experience, this interdisciplinary programme provides comprehensive training across business-relevant disciplines.

With a strong focus on real-world applications, you will gain the insight and skills to address the strategic challenges facing modern businesses and organisations operating in competitive national and global markets.

In your second term, choose from two specialised pathways – Business and Strategy or International Economics and Finance – or take a flexible approach and choose your own units from both. This enables you to tailor your study to your specific academic interests and future career plans.

Bristol is in the top 5 UK universities for research (REF 2021) and our MSc Economics, Finance and Management incorporates the latest economics research – research that has a direct impact on policy and practice.

You will be joining an academic community that is international, forward-thinking, collaborative, and committed to helping all our students reach their full potential. We are home to the Economics Network, which improves the teaching and learning of economics in universities throughout the UK and Europe. We are also home to the Economics Observatory, which helps the public understand the most pressing economic issues we face today.

You will be equipped with the data analysis skills necessary to allow you to complete a project-based dissertation. Dissertation topics build on what you learn in your optional units.

  • 94%: 94% of our research assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent.

Entry Requirements

You will typically need an upper second-class honours degree or an international equivalent in Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Physics or another quantitative subject.

If your degree subject is not listed above, you will typically need an upper second-class honours degree or an international equivalent which includes three different units of mathematics or quantitative units with 2:1 or equivalent in each unit. A-level Maths at Grade A may be acceptable for a non-quantitative degree.

If you are currently completing a degree, we understand that your final grade may be higher than the interim grades or module/unit grades you have achieved during your studies to date.

We will consider your application if your interim grades are currently slightly lower than the programme's entry requirements and may make you an aspirational offer. This offer would be at the standard level, so you would need to achieve the standard entry requirements by the end of your degree. Specific module requirements would still apply.

We will also consider your application if your grades are slightly lower than the programme's entry requirements, if you have at least one of the following:

  • Evidence of significant (minimum of two years in a paid role) relevant work experience such as data analysis, economics modelling, data informed policy making.
  • A postgraduate qualification.

If this is the case, please include your CV (curriculum vitae / résumé) when you apply, showing details of your relevant qualifications. Specific module requirements would still apply.

See international equivalent qualifications on the International Office website.
