Program Overview
Work-Based Learning
Overview
Develop your knowledge and understanding around key public health priorities with this practice-based module for registered nurses. You'll explore the interventions available to tackle your area of interest at a local, national, and global level, informing your future practice.
Full Description
Many healthcare practitioners' roles include an element of public health. Key patterns can become apparent among their communities, such as high levels of service users with obesity, or experiencing domestic abuse.
On this course you'll create a case study by creatively examining relevant contemporary literature around your public health issue of choice. Over 20 practice days, you'll conduct research online, speak to relevant organisations and/or charities, and begin to apply the theoretical and practical concepts you've learned in your workplace, aiding your understanding of, and enabling you to critique, the literature.
You'll explore the interventions available in your chosen area at a local, national, and global level, as well as the barriers and driving forces to these interventions, ultimately considering their suitability for use in your own practice. As you progress, you'll develop the ability to inform practice and influence policy, generating an argument for addressing this area at a population, as well as individual, level.
By the end of the course, you'll be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the measures being undertaken to address your chosen issue in the communities where you work, and an awareness of local, national, and international attempts at addressing it, and how communities are engaged in the process.
