The Dietetic Internship (DI) program is a nine-month certificate program that provides supervised practice experiences to prepare students to become Registered Dietitians (RD). The program is highly competitive and accepts up to 10 interns each year. The program begins in mid-August and ends in early May, with two weeks off in late December/early January.


Objectives:

The program aims to provide interns with varied and enriching supervised practice experiences that form the basis for a career in dietetics. Interns will gain experience in nutritional care, food service management, and community nutrition activities.


Program Description:

The program includes rotations in clinical, community, and food service settings in Massachusetts and southern Vermont. Interns receive individualized attention from preceptors at each site. Many sites offer a 64-hour specialty rotation in an area of personal interest. Interns also participate in monthly seminars and networking sessions.


Teaching:

The program emphasizes individualized attention with a one-to-one intern:preceptor ratio at field sites.


Other:

The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Interns are expected to meet all of the specific competencies established by ACEND.
