Foundations of Restorative Dentistry

Program Overview

The University of Birmingham's Restorative Dentistry module is a 20-credit distance learning program delivered over one academic year. It provides a comprehensive understanding of dental diseases, restorative treatments, and related principles, including fixed and removable prosthodontics, minimally invasive dentistry, aesthetics, and materials. Students complete three exercises to demonstrate their knowledge and skills: treatment planning, bleaching, and removable partial denture design, which together account for 100% of their final grade.

• Structure: The module is delivered through distance learning with two one-week residential courses.

• Individual Modules:
• Treatment Planning Exercise:
This exercise is based on a pre-prepared patient case and is worth 30% of the final grade.
• Bleaching Exercise: Students can choose between a clinical case report exercise or a treatment planning exercise (for students working in countries where bleaching is not legal/within scope of practice).
This exercise is worth 40% of the final grade.
• Removable Partial Denture Design Exercise: This exercise is worth 30% of the final grade.

• Bleaching Exercise: Option 1: Bleaching clinical case report exercise; Option 2: Bleaching treatment planning exercise (30%)
