Program Overview


This Trauma Science module provides a comprehensive understanding of trauma, ranging from epidemiology and diagnosis to evidence-based management. Through lectures, tutorials, and interactive activities, students develop critical analysis skills, multi-disciplinary approaches, and an understanding of trauma assessment and rehabilitation protocols. Assessment includes MCQs, short answer questions, and web-based scientific journal discussions.

Program Outline


Degree Overview:

This module will provide students with the opportunity to acquire a basic understanding of Trauma Science, ranging from epidemiology to current uses of prosthetics and rehabilitation protocols. The diagnosis of trauma will be explored with a focus on its types, causes and risk factors.

  • Demonstrate the ability to critically analyse published research data relating to trauma science, aetiology, management and complications
  • To show that students are able to apply a multi-disciplinary and cross-specialty approach to the assessment and management of trauma afflicted patients.

Assessment:

  • Multiple choice and short answer exam questions.

Teaching:

  • Combinations of lectures, tutorials, as well as guided and self-directed activities including case studies and web-based scientific journal club forums to augment their basic understanding of evidenced-based practice in trauma science.
  • The formal taught component will be delivered over 5 full days and will be supplemented by attendance at dedicated seminars and web-based discussion forum will be set up to discuss journals.
