Course Description
This course will teach learners about the amazing roles the liver fulfils to keep them healthy and will show how these functions are compromised when the liver is damaged. The course will highlight the reasons why liver disease is on the increase and will introduce some of the amazing new treatment options available to address the global challenge of liver disease. Additionally, the course will provide simple steps learners can take to look after their liver.

Course Knowledge Requirements
The course will be of relevance to those who enjoy the study of biology and are interested in medicine. Secondary or High school-level knowledge of science is sufficient to complete this course. There will also be optional, additional materials for those already educated to undergraduate level and those who would like to challenge themselves and explore beyond the core material.
What is a MOOC?
A MOOC is a Massive Open Online Course, which is a free, open, online course designed to offer a taste of higher education to learners from across the UK and the world. The University of Birmingham is delivering new MOOCs in partnership with Futurelearn, the UK’s first MOOCs provider established by the Open University. The courses have been developed by senior academic staff and their content is quality-assured in line with the university's other programmes. The courses do not offer credits towards admission to the University of Birmingham.
