Program Overview


Environmental Science (with foundation year) BSc (Hons)

The Environmental Science (with foundation year) BSc (Hons) course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of environmental science and its applications. The course is an integrated foundation degree, where students progress onto the BSc (Hons) Environmental Science course after successfully completing their foundation year.


About the Course

The foundation year acts as a launch pad, supporting students with the transition to university learning. Students develop robust study skills, increased confidence in tackling intricate problems, and cultivate independent learning. The course covers a wide range of environmental topics, including ecology, remote sensing, and environmental law.


Course Structure

The course is four years full-time or five years with a placement. The foundation year is followed by three years of study, which include core modules such as Principles of Environmental Science, Global Environmental Issues, and Environmental Monitoring and GIS. Students also have the opportunity to choose optional modules in their final year, such as Applications of Remote Sensing, Marine and Freshwater Ecology, and Ecology and Development Mitigation.


Accreditation

The BSc degree course is fully accredited by the Institution of Environmental Sciences.

Employability

100% of BSc (Hons) Environmental Science graduates are in work or further study within 15 months of finishing their degrees. The course prepares students for careers that have real-world impact, and graduates have gone on to work in organizations such as the Environment Agency, NHS, and Anderson Green.


Entry Requirements

  • UK students: Standard offer is 64 UCAS Tariff points from three qualifications. Contextual offer is 56 UCAS Tariff points from three qualifications. Other requirements include GCSE English, Maths, and Science grade C / 4.
  • International students: Academic entry requirements are 64 UCAS Tariff points from three qualifications. Other requirements include GCSE English, Maths, and Science grade C / 4. English language requirements are also specified.

Fees and Funding

  • UK students: Ł9,790 per year. If a placement year is taken, the fee is Ł1,905 for that year.
  • International students: Ł17,950 per year. If a placement year is taken, the fee is Ł1,905 for that year.

Campus and Facilities

The Brackenhurst Campus is a dedicated home for animal, rural, and environmental science courses. The campus has a range of facilities, including laboratories, a geospatial computer laboratory, and outdoor classrooms.


Careers and Employability

The course provides students with a wide range of academic and transferable skills, including research methodology, problem-solving, and attention to detail. Graduates have gone on to work in various roles, such as GIS Technician, Environmental Consultant, and Compliance Analyst.
