Degree Overview:

This interdisciplinary program combines courses from the Department of Environmental Health (DEH) in the College of Medicine and the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Nuclear Engineering (MINE) in the College of Engineering & Applied Sciences. The curriculum is designed to provide a dual emphasis on the health and engineering aspects of ergonomics and safety, preparing students to address current and future ergonomic/safety concerns in the workforce.

  • Students with an undergraduate engineering degree typically apply through MINE, while those with majors in medical sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and management apply through DEH.

  • Selection of your desired program: Applicants must select the Occupational Safety and Ergonomics program.
  • CV or resume: Applicants must submit a CV or resume.
  • Statement of Purpose and objectives: Applicants must submit a statement of purpose and objectives.
  • Unofficial transcripts for ALL higher education institutions attended: Applicants must submit unofficial transcripts from all higher education institutions attended.
  • Three Letters of Recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic or professional background: Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with their academic or professional background.
  • GRE, GMAT, and/or MCAT scores: Applicants must submit GRE, GMAT, or MCAT scores.
  • The Admissions Review Committee will take into account many factors for admissions decisions. Official GRE, GMAT, or MCAT scores should be at the 50th percentile or better.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

  • International applicants whose native language is not English: Must take the TOEFL exam and submit official scores directly from the testing agency of a minimum of 580(paper), 237(computer), or 100(internet) to be considered for the program.
  • The website https://grad.uc.edu/fac-staff/handbook/graduate-admission/international-admission/english.html also gives a list of additional exams and certificates that are approved by the University.
  • International transcripts: Should be evaluated by WES.
  • Official transcripts of all colleges and universities: Must be submitted if accepted to the program.
  • These must be official, therefore copies cannot replace official records from higher educational institutions attended.
