About this course

Study the latest in marketing management theory and practice as you learn how to improve business results in a global context. On this full-time MSc in Marketing Management you’ll focus on digital marketing techniques and data interpretation to develop your strategic and tactical decision-making.


This master’s also offers a rare opportunity to use ‘R Analytics’ software to develop your statistical analysis skills.


This master’s degree in Marketing Management is ideal if you’re new to the field and want to become a professional marketer, or if you’d like to gain marketing insights using the latest approaches.


We’ll help you graduate as a capable marketer who can integrate marketing management approaches to provide solutions for modern businesses across the globe.

Entry requirements

To apply for this course you’ll need a 2:1 degree from one of the following subjects:


  • engineering
  • humanities
  • business
  • mathematics
  • physical sciences
  • information systems
  • management
  • social sciences
  • languages (including business English, English, international business, Chinese language & literature)

We do not accept pure vocational subjects that focus on learning a particular form of art, craft or vocation. These include degrees in art and design, graphic design, animation, photography, radio and TV directing, theatre, film and TV.


English language requirements

If English isn't your first language, you'll need to complete an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to demonstrate your competence in English. You'll need all of the following scores as a minimum:


  • overall score: 6.5
  • reading: 6.0
  • writing: 6.0
  • speaking: 6.0
  • listening: 6.0

If you do not meet the English language requirements through a test or qualification, you may be able to meet them by completing one of our pre- sessional English programmes before your course starts.

If you don't have the exact entry requirements, but you have significant work experience in this sector we’ll assess your relevant professional experience, your subject knowledge and your aptitude for learning.


Your application will be considered on individual merit and you may be asked to attend an interview.


Course structure

On this strategic marketing master’s your studies will run for a full 12 months, from September to the following September.


The first 9 months cover taught modules and includes exams. From June to September you’ll work on your supervised research project.

Dissertation

You'll need to use the methods, techniques and skills you learn in the taught part of the degree to write a 15,000-word dissertation on a topic of your choosing.

Tuition fees

Fees for a year's study:

Application assessment fee

This is an extra one-off charge which is separate to your tuition fees and is payable per application. It covers the work and time it takes us to assess your application. You’ll be prompted to pay when you submit your application which won’t progress until you've paid.


If you're a current or former University of Southampton student, or if you’re applying for certain scholarships, you will not need to pay the fee. References are not required for this programme.

If we offer you a place, you will need to accept the offer within 30 working days. If you do not meet this deadline, we will offer your place to another applicant.
