Program Overview

Aeronautics and Astronautics / Aerodynamics (MEng)

Overview

MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics / Aerodynamics will give you the knowledge and skills to analyse and control aerodynamic behaviour. You'll learn how to design vehicles, wings and propulsion systems. The aerodynamics degree prepares you for a career in the aerospace or Formula 1 industries.

Entry Requirements

  • A*AA including mathematics (minimum grade A) and physics (minimum grade A), with a pass in the physics Practical (where it is separately endorsed).
  • Pass, with 38 points overall with 19 points required at Higher Level, including 6 at Higher Level in Physics and 6 at Higher Level in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) or 7 at Higher Level in Mathematics (Applications and Interpretation).

Course Structure

  • Year 1: Induction programme, core engineering science, design and programming skills, manufacturing skills, and workshop training.
  • Year 2: Aerodynamics, astronautics, mechanics of flight, propulsion, systems design and computing, and a team project.
  • Year 3: Aircraft design, environmental impacts, wing dynamics, aerothermodynamics, aircraft structural design, aerospace control design, and an individual research project.
  • Year 4: Technical modules on advanced topics, a group design project, and a chance to apply conceptual engineering and scientific knowledge to an engineering design problem.
