Program Overview
This Master's program in Manufacturing Engineering combines technical expertise in zero-defect manufacturing and circular economy with innovation and entrepreneurship training. It offers a fully immersive transnational experience with two universities in different European countries, equipping graduates for high-level technical, innovation, and entrepreneurial roles in the manufacturing industry.
Program Outline
The program aims to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue careers in the manufacturing industry, particularly in the areas of zero-defect manufacturing and circular economy. It combines technical and technological aspects of manufacturing with innovation and entrepreneurship teaching.

- Equip students with the engineering expertise to create new or improved methods, techniques, products, and services in the field of zero-defect manufacturing.
- Develop students' ability to utilize modeling, monitoring, and improvement methods to design and manage data in industrial and service scenarios.
- Develop students' ability to draw up plans and make decisions foreseeing future consequences from a scientific, ethical, and societal perspective.
- Equip students with the skills to turn innovations in the area into feasible and successful business solutions.
- Enhance students' ability to work effectively in small teams and contexts, taking into account all relevant elements and demonstrating effective decision-making and leadership abilities.
Outline:
The program is structured as a two-year (120 ECTS) program, with the first year spent at UCD and the second year at another university in a different European country. Students choose one of four majors:
- Additive manufacturing for Full Flexibility
- Zero-Defect Manufacturing for a Circular Economy
- Digital Manufacturing for Innovative Ecosystems
- Data Science and AI for Competitive Manufacturing
- Host Programme technical courses: 45 ECTS
- Host Programme AM specialization courses: 15 ECTS
- I&E Module courses: 30 ECTS
- Master thesis: 30 ECTS
Course Schedule:
- Year 1: Students are committed to collecting a total of 40-50 ECTS related to the Technical Major and 10-20 ECTS related to the I&E Module (60 ECTS total). However, the program covers relevant fields in:
- Manufacturing Science: Main thermal and mechanical processing technologies, with special reference to new processes with growing industrial importance and applied in different sectors, including automotive, aerospace, biomedical, and energy.
- Data Analysis: Modelling, monitoring, and improvement methods to design and manage data in industrial and service scenarios.
Teaching:
The program emphasizes hands-on experiential learning through Teaching & Learning Factories. The program also includes a dedicated summer school that rotates between university partners.
Careers:
Graduates of this program are well-equipped for high-level technical positions, innovation roles, and business profiles, including the capability to create their own start-up. The program prepares students for roles in:
