Program Overview

Management Science and Information Systems Studies

Management Science and Information Systems Studies (MSISS) is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program that combines techniques from disciplines such as business, mathematics, computer science, statistics, and management science to solve real-world problems. The program emphasizes interpersonal skills, including verbal communication, interviewing, teamwork, and report writing.

Overview

The primary objective of the MSISS program is to produce graduates who are both business and computer literate, with a solid understanding of how to approach and solve practical problems using various tools and techniques. The program focuses on building analytical skills, flexibility, and creative thinking.

Course Structure

The MSISS program consists of four strands:

  1. Quantitative Techniques: Developing skills in mathematics, statistics, probability, data analytics, forecasting, and management science.
  2. Information Technology and Systems: Learning about end-user tools, programming, system design and development, databases, and state-of-the-art topics in areas such as strategic information systems.
  3. Business-Based Concepts: Covering important concepts in management, finance, and operations management.
  4. Personal Skills: Building a range of skills, including teamwork, making presentations, interviewing, report writing, and researching.

First and Second Years

Third and Fourth Years

The third and fourth years allow students to focus on areas of particular interest. In each year, there are core courses and a range of optional modules from which students select options. An integral component of the final year is a Capstone project, which takes the form of a consultancy project for a real-world client.

Assessment

Students are assessed by a combination of assignments and end-of-year examinations. A report on the final-year project is an important part of the assessment.

Study Abroad

Students may apply to spend their third year studying at a university abroad as part of an exchange program.

Admission Requirements

  • Leaving Certificate: H4 in Mathematics
  • Advanced GCE (A-Level): Grade C in Mathematics
  • International Baccalaureate: HL Grade 5 in Mathematics
  • English Language Requirements: All applicants must provide official evidence of proficiency in the English language, meeting Band B (Standard Entry) requirements.
