Overview of the Climate Leadership Development Micro-credential
The Climate Leadership Development micro-credential is designed for public-sector and private enterprise professionals seeking to up-skill in areas of climate leadership and sustainability. This micro-credential targets all public and private sectors, as climate change and biodiversity loss affect all parts of society and all sectors.
Why Take This Micro-credential?
Climate change poses a major challenge to society, requiring a coordinated and systemic approach applied on various levels and across sectors. This micro-credential provides an opportunity to develop leadership skills at an individual or organizational level, helping to address the global climate challenge. Participants will have the chance to network with like-minded individuals and collaborate with others across a range of sectors, applying course theory to real-world workplace challenges.
When Can I Start This Micro-credential?
There are two intakes for this micro-credential: one in September and one in February.
Admission Requirements
- Applicants must have a minimum 2.2 grade in a level 8 degree or demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
- Applicants without a level 8 degree may apply through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route.
- All applications must include a cover letter, CV, transcript, or RPL documentation.
What Will I Learn?
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners will be able to:
- Evaluate and apply a range of standard and specialized knowledge and tools for effective climate leadership.
- Lead and initiate climate action activity, taking significant responsibility for the work of individuals and groups.
- Understand and reflect on public and corporate norms for sustainability and climate action, taking action to change them where appropriate.
- Identify methods to self-evaluate and take responsibility for continuing academic/professional development.
- Utilize a Systems Thinking approach to demonstrate climate leadership in a wide variety of professional levels and contexts.

How Will This Micro-credential Be Delivered?
The micro-credential will be delivered fully online during normal working hours. It includes:
- Monthly webinars addressing key areas of climate leadership development
- Separate check-in sessions with coaches to assist with monthly content and support professional development
- A mandatory in-person networking summit at the end of the course
How Is This Micro-credential Assessed?
- Group Presentation: 30% - Demonstrating how to apply systems thinking to overcome climate risks and showcasing climate mitigation and adaptation solutions.
- Group Report: 30% - A reflective report outlining the rationale for the strategic climate leadership approach, including reference to the latest data, research, and practice.
- Personal Action Plan: 40% - Identifying challenges, barriers, and opportunities for the organization and developing actionable goals to deliver climate action, structured around the learning for each theme.

This micro-credential deals with the development of climate leadership skills, covering areas such as:
- Climate Change as a Systemic Challenge - Implementation challenges, building climate capacity, developing multidisciplinary teams, and the need for systems thinking embedded in cross-organizational collaboration.
- Principles of Climate Leadership - Integrating principles of ethics into climate leadership.
- Integrating Climate and Biodiversity into Decision Making
- Driving Behavioural Change - Understanding human perception from the perspective of individuals, organizations, and society, and how to communicate effectively to drive climate action.
- Policy Making for Climate Action - Understanding how policy is developed and current and possible future responsibilities for public and private sectors.
- Curating Your Climate Leadership Journey - Exploring principles and practice to create a personal Climate Leadership journey.
