The Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology program at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in the field of biotechnology. The program is ideal for students with a strong interest in biological sciences and a desire to use their knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on society. Students can choose from three concentrations: Medical Biotechnology, Cell and Molecular Biotechnology, and Forensic Biology.

The Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology Program aims to produce skilled and knowledgeable biotechnologists who are capable of applying their acquired knowledge to scientific research and development in medicine, science, agriculture, forensics, and the environment for the benefit of their societies, while maintaining the highest standards of professional ethics in their careers.
Program Educational Objectives
The goals of the Biotechnology Program are to:
- Supply society with biologically literate citizens who are capable of advising and making decisions.
- Produce ambitious, creative graduates who are interested in continuing their education in the biosciences.
- Practice scientific inquiry and appreciate its role in the development of research, science, technology, and society.
- Produce responsible biotechnology professionals to fulfill the employment and research needs in the biotechnology industry in the UAE and the region.
- Contribute to the advancement of agriculture, medicine, and environmental sciences through the application of biotechnology theory and recombinant DNA technology.
- Enhance the students' ability to integrate their acquired math, computer, and bioscience knowledge and skills to investigate and solve biological problems.
Program Duration and Tuition Fees
- The program duration is 4 years.
- The tuition fees are 63,290 AED (17,231 USD) per year.
Concentrations
The program offers three concentrations:
- Medical Biotechnology
- Cell and Molecular Biotechnology
- Forensic Biology
Concentration in Medical Biotechnology
This concentration focuses on the application of biotechnology principles to medical fields, including drug development, genetic engineering, and molecular diagnostics.
Concentration in Cell and Molecular Biotechnology
This concentration focuses on the study of cells and molecules, including cell culture, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.
Concentration in Forensic Biology
This concentration focuses on the application of biotechnology principles to forensic science, including DNA analysis, crime scene investigation, and forensic chemistry.
Program Requirements
To graduate from the program, students must complete a total of 128 credits, including:
- University General Education Requirements (31 credits)
- Biotechnology Program Core Courses (63 credits)
- Biotechnology Program Elective Courses (7 credits)
- Concentration Course Requirements (21 credits)
