Program Outline

Degree Overview:

The Human Resource Management with CIPD pathway MSc is a postgraduate program offered by the University of Sheffield's Management School. It is available in two formats: with accreditation from the UK Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and without accreditation. The CIPD-accredited pathway has a specific list of core modules and optional modules, while the non-accredited pathway contains a wider range of optional modules. Students will learn about a diverse range of topics including pay, performance management, recruitment and retention, strategic management, skills and workforce development, worker voice and representation, and international HRM. They will also learn about how to conduct research, including designing a research project, obtaining ethical approval, undertaking qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, and applying theoretical knowledge to empirical data. The final element of the HRM MSc is the authoring of a substantive piece of independent research in the form of either a dissertation or a company project. The latter involves working with an organization such as a private company, a public organization, or a charity to produce a piece of research in conjunction with them. Throughout their dissertation/company project, students will receive personalized supervision from an academic who will offer guidance on their project. Upon graduation, students will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and experience to succeed and flourish in human resources management, both in the UK and internationally.
