About Program
Program Overview
This M.Eng. program in Renewable Energy and Environment Engineering equips engineers with expertise in renewable energy technologies, low-emission power plant design, and environmental management. Developed in collaboration with international universities, it addresses the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the energy and environment sectors. With modules covering renewable energy resources, environmental impact assessment, and waste management, graduates are prepared to contribute to sustainable energy and environmental practices.
Program Outline
It focuses on renewable energy resources, low emission power plants, and environmental management.
- Objectives:
- To establish a new master's program leading to an Engineering degree in the fields of energy and environmental management.
- To support the labor and energy sectors with well-qualified professional engineers in the renewable energy discipline.
- To establish specially-tailored training programs for engineers working in the renewable energy sector.
- Program Preparation and Establishment:
- Funded by the European Union (through TEMPUS program).
- Prepared in cooperation with several universities, companies, and scientific research centers from Egypt, Spain, England, and Bulgaria.
- Conducted by the College of Engineering, Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTM) with the coordination of Staffordshire (UK), Oviedo (Spain), UCTM (Bulgaria), Ain shams, Helwan, and Nile universities.
Outline:
- Target Groups:
- Marine Engineers
- Electrical Engineers
- Mechanical Engineers
- Program Structure:
- Developed following the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) with equivalence in the Egyptian Credit Hour System.
- Integrated program composed of:
- Courses representing 67.5 ECTS credits = 27 Egyptian Credit Hours
- Case Study Application representing 15 ECTS credits = 6 Egyptian Credit Hours
- Total program: 82.5 ECTS = 33 Egyptian Credit Hours
- Modules:
- Studies of solar, wind, wave, tidal, and geothermal energy.
- Low Emission Power Plants Module:
- Study of pollutant reduction technologies applied to conventional power plants.
- Includes different technologies for carbon capture and storage.
- Aims to raise awareness of international legislations/protocols concerning the environment and pollutant emissions.
- Environmental Management Studies Module:
- Focuses on mechanical and biological treatment of solid waste, design of solid waste treatment plants, waste water treatment of urban areas and industrial processes drainage, and air quality control.
- Covers air pollutant measurements and sampling, as well as flue gas treatments.
Other:
- WESET Project: Some courses have been updated thanks to EACEA funding as part of the WESET project (www.weset-project.eu).
- Egyptian National Renewable Energy Report: The program is designed to address the Ministry of Electricity and Energy's goal of doubling the renewable energy share of energy production to 20% by 2020.
- Fossil Fuel Combustion: The program acknowledges that fossil fuel combustion will continue to be the dominant share of energy production for the next two decades.
