Master of Economic and Social History
The Master of Arts in Economic and Social History degree program is offered by the College of Arts. This program is fundamental to the university as it achieves its mission to produce enlightened graduates who are capable of conducting a wide range of research studies and who are highly trained to solve problems by means of the diverse studies the program offers.
Program Overview
The MA program in the History Department was launched in the academic year 1404 H. To date, 44 students have enrolled in the program and 24 were awarded the MA degree. The PhD program in the History Department was launched in the academic year 1410 H. with 25 students, and so far 20 students have been awarded the PhD degree. However, the program remained undeveloped since its launch.

Program System
The program applies a blended system of taught courses and thesis. Taught courses extend over 2 semesters where the student studies general courses in the first semester with the exception of the language course and in the second semester the student specializes in one of four topics:
- MA in Ancient History
- MA in Medieval Islamic History
- MA in Medieval European History
- MA in Modern and Contemporary History

Additional Requirements
Publishing a research from the thesis in a refereed journal.
Admission
Terms of Admission
- Bachelor's degree in the same field.
- Pass the Postgraduate Aptitude Test with no less than 70 degrees.
- Pass the English test IELTS with a 4.5 degree or its equivalent.
Study Plan
The Master of Arts in Economic and Social History degree program is made up of 24 credits and a thesis. The thesis topic must reflect the area of specialization of the student and must incorporate original research and analysis.
