Program Overview


Introduction to the Bachelor of Nursing Program

The Health Sciences field is emerging as one of the UAE's strategic and largest growth areas. The Higher Colleges of Technology's Health Sciences Division offers a broad range of Health Sciences Bachelor, Higher Diploma, and Diploma programs, all designed to provide graduates with the skills and competencies needed to succeed in this challenging and rewarding field.


Faculty Mission

The Faculty mission is to develop robust, pedagogically sound, nationally and internationally accredited curricula through collaboration internally and externally, partnering with industry and community, particularly in the medical and health sector, to deliver learning and teaching programs that are technically and clinically evidence-based and research-informed, and to be highly innovative in the continuous improvement of each program, sensitive to the health and medical industry and community requirements, and emerging future workforce demands.


Program Description

The Bachelor of Nursing program is a four-year post-foundation, 134 credit program that prepares the student for entry into professional practice as a generalist nurse. It includes a mix of theoretical knowledge in nursing, human and behavioral sciences, as well as other areas such as investigatory, managerial, and communication knowledge and skills, all of which are required for competent, safe practice as a professional registered nurse. The program includes a knowledge base that examines the fields of:


  • Acute and chronic medical/surgical nursing
  • Maternal and newborn health
  • Child and adolescent health
  • Mental health
  • Care of the patient with complex and high dependency health needs
  • Community health The program incorporates extensive supervised professional clinical education in selected and relevant clinical healthcare settings.

Program Goals

  1. Educate the baccalaureate nursing students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies that meet national and international nursing standards to deliver safe, quality care and optimize health for individuals, families, and communities.
  2. Cultivate an educational environment of compassion, endurance, competence, excellence, innovation, creativity, collaboration, and professional development in nursing education and professional practice.
  3. Prepare the baccalaureate nursing students with leadership qualities in a variety of healthcare settings and to the nursing practice and education.
  4. Prepare the baccalaureate nursing students to meet the national and international healthcare industry expectations for high quality of care and outcomes through certification, licensure, and other professional requirements.
  5. Contribute to and promote excellence in scholarly activities and evidence-based practice in nursing and healthcare fields.
  6. Foster excellence in nursing education through integration of the latest technological innovations.
  7. Promote students-faculty interaction and involvement in health promotion and education activities for individuals, families, and communities.

Program Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this program, the graduate will be able to:


  1. Apply knowledge from the nursing, allied health, behavioral sciences, best practice, and independent and professional learning resources to provide quality healthcare services in clinical and nonclinical settings.
  2. Utilize the nursing process framework to provide holistic care for individuals, families, and communities in different settings to optimize health and well-being.
  3. Demonstrate effective cognitive, technical, critical thinking, and communication competencies to establish, implement, deliver, and evaluate nursing care plans within healthcare settings.
  4. Utilize evidence-based practice and independent nursing research skills to improve patient health outcomes to meet the changing healthcare needs of individuals, families, and communities and to generate solutions that would contribute to the nursing body of knowledge and evaluation of the professional nursing care.
  5. Demonstrate professional competencies and technical leadership attributes through a lifelong learning process to lead and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a diverse range of clinical settings.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to generate innovative solutions to improve the quality of clinical nursing practice.
  7. Demonstrate leadership and management skills and competencies to provide safe and optimum quality care in a variety of healthcare settings.
  8. Demonstrate lifelong professional, moral, legal, and ethical attributes relevant to their registered nurses' role in their practice areas and meeting the regulatory and professional standards nationally and internationally.
