Introduction to the Bachelor of Veterinary Science Program
The Health Sciences field is emerging as one of the UAE's strategic and largest growth areas. The Higher Colleges of Technology's Health Sciences Division offers a broad range of Health Sciences Bachelor, Higher Diploma, and Diploma programs, all designed to provide graduates with the skills and competencies needed to succeed in this challenging and rewarding field.
Faculty Mission
The Faculty mission is to develop robust, pedagogically sound, nationally and internationally accredited curricula through collaboration internally and externally, partnering with industry and community, particularly in the medical and health sector, to deliver learning and teaching programs that are technically and clinically evidence-based and research-informed, and to be highly innovative in the continuous improvement of each program, sensitive to the health and medical industry and community requirements, and emerging future workforce demands.
Program Description
The Bachelor of Veterinary Science program aims to produce Emirati national graduates to work as veterinary bioscientists to fulfill the need identified by the UAE government. The 4-year program provides graduates with expertise in the following areas: animal and food biosecurity, public health, livestock production and health, and veterinary laboratory support services, prioritized by federal and local UAE Authorities.
Program Goals
- Equip the students with skills, competencies, and experience needed for a qualified veterinary technician who meets national and international veterinary standards.
- Graduate VET students with expertise in veterinary domains in accordance with federal and local UAE Authorities.
- Engage students and faculty in innovative, applied research projects to solve industry problems and promote animal and public health care, including disease investigation and prevention.
- Promote student-faculty interaction and participation in veterinary education activities for individuals and communities.
- Graduate competent veterinary students with robust entrepreneurial skills to initiate and integrate new ideas relevant to modern veterinary practice.
Program Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this program, the graduate will be able to:
- Apply the knowledge of ethics, policies, and regulations applicable to veterinary diagnostic laboratories and clinics, meat inspection, food safety and public health, livestock health and production, and animal quarantine.
- Utilize evidence-based practice research and industry guidelines to improve animal wealth, production, and food biosecurity and safety.
- Demonstrate technical skills to be applied in the development of an enterprise or to be part of an enterprise related to the animal and food biosecurity, public health, livestock health and production, and veterinary laboratory services.
- Demonstrate competency in using equipment, applying technologies and information systems that support and enhance animal and food biosecurity, public health, livestock health and production, and veterinary laboratory services.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team in an evolving, competitive diverse range of animal-related, food safety and laboratory-based settings.
- Demonstrate life-long learning competency aimed at understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Demonstrate entrepreneurial attributes to initiate and integrate new ideas relevant to veterinary practice in animal and food biosecurity, public health, livestock health and production, and veterinary laboratory services.
