About Program

Program Overview

A Medicine Undergraduate Foundation is a one-year (3 term) programme which offers successful students a pathway to apply for Year 1 of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at UCLan. Students will typically study 3-4 subjects, depending on the pathway chosen, as well as English Language. One of the most important requirements for university entry is English language level and as well as filling any academic gaps, English Language is critical to students' success. Students, on average, will spend up to five hours per week per subject in class and be expected to allocate a similar number of hours to independent study. The benefits of an Undergraduate Foundation include;
  • a focused pathway that is designed to offer the best chance of entry to university
  • the offer of guaranteed progression to a partner university (although this is usually subject to achieving the pass mark required), giving you peace of mind
  • the opportunity to study on university campus, so you feel part of the university from the moment you arrive
  • to have the support of a personal tutor and subject tutors to ensure you stay on track with your study
  • to live in university accommodation - mixing with current undergraduate students
  • independence. Students are responsible for managing their own time, their independent study, completing homework, cooking, shopping and their budget.
  • Program Outline

    Degree Overview:

The Clinical Anatomy program is a Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) program focused on the study of gross anatomy, histology, neuroanatomy, and embryology. It emphasizes the clinical application of anatomical disciplines. The program offers a broad range of fundamental courses, including techniques of molecular biology, biostatistics, and research methodology. It is research-intensive and provides several basic science laboratory exercises as well as practical research experience in molecular biology, cell biology, and medical education.

    Objectives:

By the end of the program, students will be able to:

    • Critically evaluate and provide feedback on effective pedagogical practices in higher education, specifically related to anatomical education.
    • Demonstrate mastery of anatomical knowledge by professional communication and teaching skills that promote the integration and translation of the basic anatomical sciences to clinical applications, including the ability to work in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams.
    • Design course curricula and evidence-based learning tools that stimulate interactive deep learning.
    • Critically evaluate published literature and integrate broader knowledge from the fields of anatomical education, learning theory, and applied clinical anatomy in the context of their own research.
    • Demonstrate creative, evidence-based problem-solving skills related to anatomical sciences and education scholarship.
    • Exhibit technical and intellectual competence in the discovery-based research process by applying an existing body of knowledge to the rigorous scientific investigation of a new question or hypothesis.
    • Explore, identify, and develop successful career trajectories both within and outside academia.

    Other:

    • The MBS Clinical Anatomy stream is closely linked to the National Science Technology and Innovation Plan (NSTIP), which was created as a product of the Science and Technology National Plan of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (STNP).
    • The program was designed to adapt the approach of integrating and making maximum benefit from the varied research expertise and facilities available at the different Colleges of Alfaisal University.
    • The program is open to students with undergraduate degrees from biochemistry, biotechnology, life sciences, biology, pharmacy, and medicine.
    • Both Saudi and non-Saudi, as well as local and international students can apply.
