English Programmes

The English Programmes at Future University in Egypt (FUE) are designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in the English language. The programmes offered include the Academic English Language Programme (AELP) and the General English Language Programme (GELP).

Academic English Language Programme (AELP)

The AELP is a programme that aims to improve students' English language skills in an academic context. The programme includes two courses: ENG101 and ENG102.

General English Language Programme (GELP)

The GELP is a programme that offers courses at various levels, including A1, A2, B1, B1+, and B2. Each course is designed to help students improve their English language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

B1 Course

The B1 course is a 48-hour face-to-face course that requires students to have a placement test or level 2 as a prerequisite. The course uses the textbook "Cutting Edge (3rd edition), Intermediate Student's Book with digital resources."

Text Book Description

The textbook used in the B1 course is "Cutting Edge (3rd edition), Intermediate Student's Book with digital resources." This textbook provides learners with an immediate sense of purpose and clear learning objectives. It includes core grammar and vocabulary input alongside a mix of skills, such as speaking lessons that offer a unique combination of functional language, pronunciation, and conversation skills.

Course Description

The B1 course is designed according to the CEFR language descriptors, and students at this level can:

  • Understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
  • Deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
  • Produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
  • Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes, and ambitions, and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Class Policies

The class policies for the B1 course include:

  • Attend all classes, be on time, and be ready to begin work.
  • Show respect to the instructor and other students.
  • Do not cause any disruption in class.
  • Turn off your cell phone.
  • Speak only English in the classroom.
  • Bring your own textbooks, as failure to do so may result in exclusion from the classroom.

Attendance Policy

A student may withdraw from the program if they are absent for up to 25 percent of the course, provided they do so within the time permitted for withdrawal, which is during the first twelve weeks of the academic semester. If the absence exceeds 25 percent, a student will not be allowed to withdraw from the course and will not be permitted to attend lectures or sit the final examination, resulting in a failing grade of 'F' on the course.

Assessment

Students must receive a minimum of 50% pass overall to go to the next level. The assessment is based on the following criteria:

  • Classroom-based and home-based assessment
  • Progress test
  • Speaking test
  • Final exam
