The program is intended for graduates seeking careers in cybersecurity, cybercrime, or IT security, preparing them for consultant or employee roles across various industries. The program involves eight taught modules and a substantial research project, drawing on expertise from Computing, Law, Sociology, and Politics. The modules are: It examines topics like cyber-stalking, online offenses against children, and cyberterrorism, using case studies and relevant literature. The module also addresses how ICT users, the IT industry, criminal justice professionals, and policymakers interact in defining and regulating networked ICT use. Students develop skills to apply this knowledge in various situations and on different devices. It covers risk assessment, business impact analysis, asset identification, and risk management frameworks and international standards. It emphasizes the impact of security in corporate environments and applying security in networked environments.

  • Introduction to Law: This module provides a basic understanding of relevant legal systems, sources, institutions, and personnel.
  • Topics include demystifying legal culture, legal research methods, the German legal system, European Law, Human Rights Law, and International Law, with a focus on Cyber Law.
  • Penetration Testing: This module equips students with skills to test IT infrastructures for vulnerabilities.
  • Students gain practical experience using tools and techniques to carry out attacks to better understand them and improve infrastructure resilience.
  • MSc Dissertation: This module involves a significant research project (20-30,000 words, approximately 600 hours of work), supervised by two academics.
  • Students select a project by December of the first term. The dissertation allows students to apply their skills and knowledge to real-world problems and develop expertise in a specific area. The aim is to produce publishable-quality work. The program structure may be subject to change due to factors like student feedback, timetabling, staff changes, and new research. Not all optional modules are available every year.

Assessment:

Assessment methods include individual or group coursework, research projects, and examinations. Independent study is expected to supplement taught material.


Teaching:

Teaching is delivered through a combination of small group lectures and group-based tutorials. All teaching is conducted in English.
