Master in Environmental Engineering
Program Overview
The Master in Environmental Engineering program educates students in solving environmental challenges within industrial settings. It integrates coursework, an internship, and a final project, leading to a diploma from the European University of the Atlantic. Graduates are prepared for careers as environmental technicians and managers, focusing on waste management, air pollution control, and environmental management systems. The program emphasizes sustainability and the integration of social, environmental, and economic factors.
Program Outline
Degree Overview:
The Master in Environmental Engineering is a professionally-oriented postgraduate program designed to train professionals to solve environmental problems and adopt good practices in industrial settings. The program aims to equip students with general competencies—instrumental, personal, and systemic—needed for careers as environmental engineers or in related research. It addresses the growing need for businesses to consider environmental, social, economic, and ethical factors in their operations, moving beyond a solely cost-focused production model. The program integrates practical training with theoretical knowledge to meet societal needs and foster scientific interest. The program's objective is to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to address the environmental impacts of industrial processes, including resource consumption and pollution. The program leads to a diploma titled "MASTER IN ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING" issued by the European University of the Atlantic.

Careers:
The Master in Environmental Engineering prepares students for various careers, including:
- Environmental technician in companies (large, medium, small, public, or private).
- Technician or operator in solid and industrial waste treatment plants.
- Technician or plant operator at material recovery (composting) and/or energy waste plants.
- Technician or operator in industrial or domestic wastewater treatment plants.
- Head of the environmental department in a business, implementing ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Technician in controlling air pollution in industrial facilities. The program's learning outcomes include developing competencies related to waste management (solid and liquid), air pollution control, soil remediation, and environmental management systems (ISO 14001). The program emphasizes the integration of social, environmental, and economic factors in environmental problem-solving. The university offers a self-enrollment service online for admitted students. The university has a system for credit transfer and acknowledgment from previous studies or professional experience, up to a maximum of 15% of the total credits.
Entry Requirements:
According to article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, as amended by Royal Decree 861/2010, access is granted to students who meet one of the following conditions: Possession of an official Spanish university undergraduate degree or a degree from a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area that qualifies the holder for Master's degree studies in their country of issue. Holders of undergraduate degrees from outside the European Higher Education Area may access without degree accreditation, provided the university verifies their education is equivalent to a Spanish official university undergraduate degree allowing access to postgraduate studies. This does not imply approval or recognition of the prior diploma for purposes other than Master's entry. Students with special educational needs due to disability will have their needs for curricular adaptations, itineraries, or alternative studies considered. Beyond legal requirements, the university mandates:
- Basic knowledge equivalent to an undergraduate level in the Master's academic field, particularly in Foundations of Environmental Engineering. This is proven by academic documents showing completion of a relevant degree, or by continuous, permanent, complementary, or postgraduate training demonstrating expertise in the required areas. The university particularly values applicants holding these degrees:
- Engineering (Agricultural, Industrial Organization, Forest, Civil, Chemical) or equivalent (Higher or Technical Engineers).
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Any equivalent university degree, whether from the Spanish or another country's system.
- University degrees with specific training in Environmental Engineering.
