Program Overview

The Associate Degree in Health Humanization enhances healthcare quality by training professionals to prioritize patient autonomy and respect within a compassionate medical environment. The program comprises subjects on humanization, aid relationships, bereavement, and health management, culminating in a research project. This multidisciplinary degree prepares individuals for careers in healthcare education, research, and consulting, emphasizing ethical integration of technological advancements and family support in patient care.

Program Outline

The program focuses on enabling patient participation in treatment decisions within a respectful environment. It emphasizes a "reflection-action" approach to healthcare centered on the patient.

General Objective:

To guide and strengthen “reflection-action” healthcare, based on the individual patient, consumer and borrower of health services, contributing to ongoing training in hospital and clinical settings, and promoting a culture of life.

Specific Objectives:

  • Develop personal growth in cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions.
  • Understand the anthropological bases supporting human beings and humanization in healthcare.
  • Understand the humanistic psychology-inspired aid relationship model.
  • Integrate advances in biotechnology with responsible ethics.
  • Recognize and promote family relationships in patient accompaniment, especially in end-of-life care.
  • Integrate the healthcare team's vocation in supporting families through the grieving process.
  • Optimize healthcare performance through leadership and management in clinical hospital settings.
  • Integrate basic humanizing care, healthcare process participants, and Units of Spiritual Accompaniment.

Outline:

The program has 10 credits and is structured into three parts:

Part 1: Subjects (8 credits):

This part focuses on acquiring knowledge about the humanization of healthcare for personal growth in cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions. It includes four subjects:

  • Fundamentals of humanization and dehumanization in the world of health (2 credits, 20 hours): This module explores the core concepts of humanization and dehumanization within healthcare settings.
  • The relationship of aiding (2 credits, 20 hours): This module delves into the dynamics and principles of providing aid within a healthcare context.
  • Mourning (2 credits, 20 hours): This module examines the process of mourning and its implications for healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Health Management Tools (2 credits, 20 hours): This module equips students with practical tools and strategies for effective health management.

Part 2: Final Exam (1 credit):

A series of closed questions testing material from the four subjects. (10 hours)

Part 3: Final Project (1 credit):

Students develop a research project in an area of personal interest within the program's field of study, building upon the provided teaching material. (10 hours) The total program length varies depending on student dedication, but all evaluated activities and the final project must be completed successfully. One (1) ECTS credit is equivalent to 10-15 hours. This equivalence may vary depending on the awarding university.

Assessment:

Assessment involves completing four subjects, a final exam (closed questions), and a final project (research project). Successful completion of all three parts leads to the Associate Degree in Humanization of Healthcare.

Teaching:

The program uses integrative exercises to acquire and internalize knowledge and project practices. The teaching staff includes a diverse group of doctors and professors from various universities and institutions across several countries (Spain, Switzerland, Mexico, Chile, Italy, USA, Colombia).

Careers:

The program's multidisciplinary nature allows for careers in teaching, research, and professional field consulting.

Other:

The diplomas are awarded by Finis Terrae University (Chile) under the sponsorship of the Ibero-American University Foundation (FUNIBER). FUNIBER offers scholarships. The program is designed for those with intermediate-level education, technicians, and professionals interested in humanization of healthcare.
