Degree Overview:

The MSc in Mobile and Web Computing: Internet of Things Applications is a postgraduate program offered by the School of Science & Technology of the University Center of International Programmes of Studies at the International Hellenic University. It acknowledges the convergence of web and mobile technologies towards Ubiquitous Computing and Web 3.0. The program blends state-of-the-art knowledge in computer science, communications, web, and mobile technologies with essential business skills. Leading academic instructors from Greece and abroad deliver lectures, and students engage in projects and dissertation work. The program is designed for graduates in Informatics/Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Economic and Business Departments with an ICT background and a strong interest in Mobile and Web Computing careers. Courses are taught exclusively in English, and a combination of distance learning and face-to-face teaching is possible.


Outline:

The MSc program consists of two semesters of coursework for full-time students and four semesters for part-time students, followed by one semester dedicated to the postgraduate thesis. Upon arrival, students may take foundation courses in Java and SQL to ensure a consistent level of programming knowledge. Students are eligible for the dissertation only after completing the first two semesters. The program requires 90 ECTS credits. Courses include:

  • Semester 1: Computer Networks (Compulsory), Foundations of Computing (Compulsory), Information Systems Security (Compulsory), Internet of Things Fundamentals (Compulsory), Web Programming (Compulsory).
  • Semester 2: Human Computer Interaction, Design and User Experience (Compulsory), Mobile Application Development (Compulsory), Software Development Methodologies (Compulsory), Big Data and Cloud Computing (Elective), Consulting Project (Elective), Digital Organisations: eCommerce and eGovernment (Elective), IT and Electronics in the frame of the IoT (Elective), Product Design for the IoT (Elective), Security and Privacy for the IoT (Elective).
  • The dissertation is a significant component of the program, requiring completion and presentation.

Teaching:

The program utilizes a combination of lectures delivered by leading academic instructors from Greece and abroad. The program is offered in a blended learning format, allowing for both distance learning and traditional face-to-face teaching.


Careers:

Graduates are expected to find roles in software development and services across various sectors. Potential employers include software companies, e-business companies, mobile network providers, broadband internet providers, research institutes, businesses with in-house software development, marketing and advertising, and freelance opportunities. The program starts in October, with an application deadline in September. The program takes place at the School of Science & Technology facilities in Thermi-Thessaloniki. The program is available in a full-time (18 months) or part-time (30 months) format, with weekday evening and weekend classes. Distance learning is also an option. Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:

To be considered for the MSc in Mobile and Web Computing: Internet of Things Applications program, candidates must have:

  • An undergraduate University degree in Engineering, Science, Informatics, or from Technological Educational Institutes in related subject areas, from a recognized Higher Education Institution in Greece or abroad.
  • Students who are missing a small number of courses to obtain their degree may be accepted, but must submit a certificate of completion of studies by the registration deadline.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

Applicants must demonstrate English language knowledge with a relevant certificate equivalent to at least the State Certificate of Language Learning Level B2, or another certificate proving good English knowledge. However, those holding an undergraduate or postgraduate degree from a foreign university where the language of instruction was English are exempt from this requirement.
