The Site Carpentry apprenticeship is a Level 2 program offered as an apprenticeship. It has two pathways:

  • Pathway 1: Site Carpenter: This pathway focuses on working on building sites or in domestic and commercial premises.
  • Apprentices will prepare and fix building components, from the initial stages of construction to installing fixtures and fittings, and performing repair and maintenance.
  • Pathway 2: Architectural Joiner: This pathway involves working in a workshop to produce timber-based building components and architectural products (doors, windows, units, staircases), which are then installed on construction sites by site carpenters.
  • The apprenticeship covers the following skills, knowledge, and behaviours:

Knowledge:

  • Calculating quantity, length, area, and wastage of resources.
  • Understanding the characteristics, quality, uses, sustainability, limitations, and defects of timber and timber-based products (hardwood, softwood, MDF, etc.).

Skills:

  • Planning and executing work to commercial standards.
  • Moving, handling, and storing resources.
  • Accessing, interpreting, and using drawings.

Behaviours:

  • Independent working and taking responsibility.
  • Logical thinking, time management, and adaptability.
  • The program uses a blended delivery model. Apprentices spend one day a week at Bradford College for classroom-based learning, in addition to regular workplace assessments. The duration is one academic year, with year-round enrollment and part-time study mode.

Teaching:

Careers:

Upon completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship, apprentices can progress to the Advanced Carpentry & Joinery apprenticeship.
