With the help of the knowledge that the students acquire at our institute, they are able find jobs in a wide variety of fields including working as an urban or regional planning assistant, project manager, environmental consultant, administrator, social statistician, technical officer, government researcher, resource planner.


Short Description

The aim of the programme is to train geographers who have advanced theoretical and applied geographic knowledge; they are able to analyze the spatial and temporal correlations of the natural, socio-economic and urban environment, to synthesize results, to gain knowledge in their academic field independently; having mastered the use of the field, laboratory, and IT devices/software of modern geography; they are able to prepare decisions, to answer professional questions and to solve professional tasks. They are able to apply their basic geographic knowledge in the fields of nature and environment protection, governance, economics, statistics and tourism. They are prepared to continue their studies for a master's degree.


Programme Structure

The programme consists of the following academic fields necessary for the qualification:


  • Science, humanities and economics; geographic professional knowledge:
    • basic knowledge of science and social sciences (introductory courses in mathematics, physics, IT, biology, chemistry, European Union studies, economics, sociology, demography)
    • fundamentals of earth sciences (introductory courses in climate, cartography, geology)
    • fundamentals of geography (introductory courses in geomathematics, geoinformatics, geographical investigative and research methodology)
    • physical geography module (courses in geomorphology, internal forces, soil geography, biogeography, hydrogeography)
    • socio-geography module (population and urban geography, general economic geography courses)
    • regional geography module (courses in physical and social geography of Europe and Hungary)

  • Secondary school leaving certificate
  • Good grades in Geography (at least 80%)
  • Proof of Language proficiency in English – upper-intermediate level / CEFR B2 level or higher
    • Having a language certificate is not a compulsory requirement. English communication skills will be proved in the online interview during the application procedure.

Selection and Entrance Examination Process

The admission procedure consists of the following parts:


  • online interview (20-25 minutes)
  • evaluation of application documents

The application procedure is based on an evaluation system of 100 points (50 points are given for motivation and educational background, and the other 50 points for language proficiency and intercultural preparedness according to the online interview). Following the formal check-up of the application documents, the staff of the institute will organize the oral entrance examination.
