Program Outline

Degree Overview:

The program, "Bilgi ve Belge Yönetimi" (Information and Document Management), is a Bachelor's degree program (Lisans programı). The program aims to develop graduates with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of information science, particularly its socio-technical methods. The core goal is to produce self-confident individuals who understand their knowledge, share it effectively, and translate that knowledge into added value within businesses. The program is interdisciplinary, building upon the foundations of information management, incorporating business management, technology management, information science and IT management, and cognitive science to understand human nature.

Outline:

The Bilgi ve Belge Yönetimi program consists of 47 courses totaling 240 ECTS credits. The program structure includes core required courses (ortak zorunlu dersler) determined by the Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK) and other common courses (diğer ortak dersler) set by the University Senate. There are at least 5 courses per semester, excluding common required and elective courses. Elective courses (seçmeli dersler) are offered from the third year onwards, with at least 7 elective courses required for graduation. Students must complete 7 technical elective courses (teknik seçmeli dersler) from a specified list. These elective courses must be of equal or greater ECTS credit value as specified in the curriculum. Students must ensure that their chosen electives do not overlap significantly with courses already taken or required courses. The program is full-time (tam zamanlı). Similarly, a list of university-wide courses ("ÜNİVERSİTE GENELİNDE VERİLEN DERSLER (buraya tıklayınız)") and program learning outcomes ("PROGRAM KAZANIMLARI (buraya tıklayınız)") and the relationship between course and program learning outcomes ("DERS ve PROGRAM KAZANIMLARI İLİŞKİSİ (buraya tıklayınız)") are referenced but not included in the provided text.

Assessment:

Each course is assessed by the academic staff teaching the course, resulting in a letter grade. Letter grades are accompanied by ECTS weights. The grading scale includes AA (4.0), BA (3.5), BB (3.0), CB (2.5), CC (2.0), DC (1.5), DD (1.0), and FF (0.0). A weighted average grade (Ağırlıklı Genel Not Ortalaması - GNO) is calculated. To pass a course, students need at least a DD grade in undergraduate programs and a CC grade in graduate programs. The S grade is for non-credit courses, while U is for failing non-credit courses. P and NP are for courses spanning multiple semesters. EX is for exempted courses. NI indicates courses not included in the GPA.

Careers:

Graduates will find employment opportunities in various sectors, particularly in information technology-related departments of businesses. This includes technical, managerial, and operational roles, as well as positions in information centers, archives, libraries, and documentation centers. High-tech companies, those prioritizing information, technology, and innovation, are a primary target. The demand for qualified personnel in telecommunications, IT, finance, banking, tourism, healthcare, transportation, defense, and the public sector (including e-government and e-municipality projects) will provide ample opportunities. Graduates will contribute to the creation, sharing, structuring, use, and control of both implicit and explicit information within organizations, often as "information managers."

Other:

To graduate, students must achieve a minimum of 240 ECTS credits with at least a DD/S grade in all courses and a weighted GPA (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00. Business/Business Administration students must complete required and technical elective courses to reach 240 ECTS credits. Students can receive exemptions from certain courses based on prior learning at other institutions, subject to course content equivalence and faculty approval. The program is overseen by Doç. Dr. Behiye Çavuşoğlu, Department Head, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Near East University. Evaluation surveys (graduation survey, satisfaction survey) are mentioned.
