Program Outline

Degree Overview:

The program is a four-year (eight-semester) Bachelor's degree in Turkish Language Teaching. The curriculum comprises 64 courses, with 50% dedicated to field education, 30.64% to professional knowledge, and 20.31% to general culture. The program totals 149 credits (240 ECTS). The primary objective is to provide a bachelor's level education in Turkish Language Teaching over four years. Instruction is in Turkish, supplemented by practical courses to enhance student development. Elective courses are available from the third semester onward. The department aims to cultivate teachers/educators capable of training individuals who are adaptable, creative, critical thinkers, self-developers, and effective communicators, aligning with the needs of a knowledge-based society. The vision is to be recognized as a leading department in Turkish language education and research, producing graduates who contribute significantly to the field. The program emphasizes training educators who understand the value of written and spoken Turkish products, are aware of their responsibility in transmitting this heritage, and can identify and address challenges in Turkish education through scientific research. Students complete internships in primary and secondary schools, applying their knowledge and skills to gain practical experience. Graduates receive the title of Turkish Language Teacher.

Outline:

The program consists of 64 courses across eight semesters. However, the text does indicate that 50% of the courses are field education, 30.64% are professional knowledge courses, and 20.31% are general culture courses. A table is provided listing courses by semester and year, including course codes (e.g., AEF109, AİT101, BİL101, etc. ), and credit hours. The table shows a breakdown of courses across eight semesters, categorized into "Area-Appropriate Basic Courses," "Area-Appropriate Courses," "Area-Specific Elective Courses," and "Area-Outside Elective Courses." Specific course descriptions are not provided beyond the course titles and codes.

Assessment:

Assessment methods vary depending on the course and may include written exams, presentations, portfolios, reports, and projects. These assessments are weighted differently within each course. To pass a course, students need at least a DD grade (in undergraduate programs) or S (Satisfactory) for non-credit courses. The grading scale uses letter grades (AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, DC, DD, FF) with corresponding GPA values and ECTS credits.

Teaching:

The teaching methods aim to enhance students' individual study skills, lifelong learning, observation, teaching abilities, curriculum development, presentation skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and effective technology use. Faculty members use various assessment methods to evaluate student performance. The program is full-time with mandatory attendance.

Careers:

Graduates can work as Turkish language teachers in public and private schools in both the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Republic of Turkey. They may also teach Turkish to Turkish children abroad or teach Turkish to foreigners. With further qualifications (master's and doctoral degrees), they can pursue careers as university lecturers.

Other:

The program requires students to complete a mandatory internship of a specified duration and quality. Students who fail to meet the requirements of the internship may be required to repeat it. Prior learning may be recognized and students may receive exemptions from certain courses if the content is deemed equivalent to courses offered at Near East University (YDÜ). The minimum CGPA for graduation is 2.00/4.00, and a minimum of 240 ECTS credits are required. Students must successfully complete all courses listed in the curriculum with at least a DD/S grade to graduate. The average time to complete the program is eight semesters for first-time students, but may be shorter (at least five semesters) for students transferring from other universities or entering via DGS (a university entrance exam).
