Program Overview

The Associate Degree in Information Technology and Networking with a Specialization in Information Systems and Programming from DeVry University prepares students for careers in software development, IT, and networking. The program incorporates modules covering operating systems, data analysis, databases, and programming languages. Students will gain hands-on experience with IoT, cloud, software, and security technologies through a "tech-powered learning" approach. The program also features stackable credentials and qualifies students for potential certification reimbursements.

Program Outline

The program offers online and hybrid learning formats, providing flexibility to complete coursework according to individual schedules. It's anchored in DeVry's Tech Core curriculum, providing a strong foundation in technology skills relevant to the Internet of Things (IoT) economy. The specialization focuses on teaching students to write code, produce software programs, and develop apps using industry-recognized programming languages. Students will also gain skills in operating systems, hardware, connectivity, and security, building a strong base in IT, networking, programming, and information systems. The program aims to immerse students in the IoT world, providing hands-on experience with IoT, cloud, software, and security technologies and systems. Qualified students may receive up to a $300 reimbursement for the cost of one certification exam attempt (CompTIA A+, CompTIA Linux+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Cloud Essentials+, and potentially others). A complimentary laptop is provided to students as part of the program. Students can complete the program in as little as 1 year and 4 months (accelerated schedule) or 2 years (normal schedule).

Outline:

The program curriculum includes modules covering:

  • Small Enterprise Networks: Understanding network and internet technology, OSI and TCP/IP models, protocols, routers, switches, small network configuration, troubleshooting, and network security.
  • Digital Devices and Sensors in the IoT Ecosystem: Fundamentals of network design, security, and management best practices related to the IoT ecosystem.
  • Operating Systems: Installation and configuration of operating systems using the Command Line Interface (CLI).
  • Design Solutions for Technology-Driven Problems: Developing problem-solving skills to create business solutions based on networking, computing, and electronic devices.
  • System, Component and Process Design: Designing systems, components, or processes for broadly defined engineering technology problems.
  • Data Analysis: Drawing conclusions by identifying patterns and relationships in numerical data using statistical analysis tools, and applying this to database efficiency.
  • Multiple Table Systems: Creating multiple table systems using library creation, primary key selection, column identification, defining relationships, normalization, data indexing and storage, and query languages.
  • Develop Applications with C#, .NET, Visual Studio and SQL: Developing applications using these tools.
  • Communicate Methods and Findings: Communicating research methods, recommendations, performance objectives, issues, and solutions.
  • Collaborate in Dynamic Work Environments: Collaborating with colleagues in various locations and environments.
  • Complex Problem-Solving: Applying critical and analytical thinking to identify, evaluate, and implement solutions to complex problems.
  • Experimenting, Measuring and Analyzing Results from Tests: Conducting standard tests and measurements, analyzing and interpreting experiments, and applying results to improve processes.

Teaching:

The program incorporates a "tech-powered learning" approach.

Careers:

Graduates may pursue careers such as Applications Programmer Analyst, Computer Network Support Specialist, Computer Systems Analyst, Data Warehouse Specialist, and Systems Programmer Analyst.

Other:
