Program Overview
Module - Clinical Supervision (Level 7)
This exciting module is tailored to aid all professionals, regardless of experience, in either receiving or providing high-quality clinical supervision. You'll be able to explore both the theory and practice of being a clinical supervisor. This allows for a care environment which values and retains staff through the principles of support embodied in this module.
Objectives
By the end of this module, you will:
- Critically reflect on personal knowledge, skills, and attributes required for effective clinical supervision.
- Demonstrate a critical appraisal of the concept of clinical supervision.
- Critically analyze the process of clinical supervision.
- Critically review contemporary research that directly informs understanding of and the application of clinical supervision to practice.
- Participate in the formative components of the module, recruit volunteer supervisees, and undertake the minimum of 2 sessions within your role as a clinical supervisor. This will help prepare you to undertake and succeed in the summative assessment.
What You Will Learn
This module consists of an initial intensive four-week formative learning block on the theory and concepts of clinical supervision. That will equip you to undertake the practice elements. On this Module, you will learn:
- Undertaking self-reflection of the skills and knowledge required for the role of the clinical supervisor and identifying ways in which to develop
- Models of clinical supervision
- Models of reflection used in clinical supervision
- Knowledge, skills, attitudes related to clinical supervision
- Using a clinical supervision contract
- Action planning
- Professional and ethical issues
- Undertaking clinical supervision group sessions
- Clinical supervision brief record keeping
Entry Requirements
To be eligible to study this module, you must demonstrate the ability to study at this level and commit to attempting the assessment. You must also be working in an environment that will allow you to use a clinical supervision contract, and clinical supervision model taught in this module.

Prior successful study at the underpinning level; cannot study this module at level 7 if already studied at a different level; must be working in an environment that adopts the use of a clinical supervision model, be willing to take on the role of a clinical supervisor and to recruit a volunteer supervisor.
