Community Specialist Practitioner District Nursing

Course Overview

This Postgraduate Diploma Community Specialist Practitioner qualification offers the advanced level of training you need to prepare you for 21st century District Nursing. Approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), this course will give you specialist skills and knowledge to improve your practice and take your career forward. On successful completion, you will be recorded as a District Nurse on the NMC register.


With a blend of theory and practice, you will develop your knowledge to become a safe, autonomous and competent Community Specialist Practitioner District Nurse.


Graduate Destinations

Postgraduate students who complete the CSP will be encouraged to complete a further 60 credits to qualify as MSc in their chosen field of practice.

  • HCSP 7000 Consultation and Physical Examination: Assessment Skills For Community Specialist Practitioners (20 credits)
  • HCSP 7002 Leading and Advancing District Nursing (40 credits)
  • HCSP 7005 Contemporary Leadership and Management of Change for Community Specialist Practitioners (20 credits)
  • HPHN 7311 Independent/ Supplementary Prescribing for Nurses and Midwives (V300) (40 credits)

Please Note: For any student who already has the V300 there is an opportunity to undertake a Negotiated Learning module with a focus of your choosing.

Timetables

The teaching timetable should be available from the end of August. Access to the timetable is through the Student Hub – you will be able to access the Student Hub after you have completed online registration. The teaching day is 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday; please keep your other commitments open until confirmation of your teaching timetable, and bear in mind that many courses will offer placements or fieldwork which sometimes extends into the evenings and weekends.


Entry Requirements

  • 120 Level 5 credits.
  • Be registered with the NMC as a Registered Nurse Adult
  • Have at least 120 credits at level 5 (Project 2000 students awarded Diploma which is 120 level 5 credits)
  • A preferable recent study at level 5 or 6
  • Be seconded from a Health Trust or be sponsored if applying externally
