Module - Consultation and Physical Examination: Health Assessment Skills (level 6)

Overview

The aim of this module is to enable you to develop consultation and physical examination skills related to specific body systems across the lifespan. The module will be of relevance to health care professionals working with patients across the full age spectrum.


Objectives

By the end of this module you will:


  • Critically review the fundamental professional and legal issues which underpin the expansion of professional roles in the health care setting
  • Demonstrate and critically evaluate the application of a structured comprehensive history taking process within a consultation, using communication strategies and consultation models
  • Critically evaluate the application of physical examination techniques
  • Critically reflect upon how this module has transformed your knowledge and skills and its application to your practice

Teaching & Assessment

How you will learn

The aim of this module is to enable you to develop consultation and physical examination skills related to specific body systems across the lifespan. The module will be of relevance to health care professionals working with patients across the full age spectrum.


How you will be assessed

Having completed this module you may wish to bring these credits (at level 6 only) into the University Advanced Diploma (UAD) Practice Development: Enhanced Health Assessment or Emergency Care. Please discuss this opportunity with the module leader before completion of this module.


Alternatively, you may wish to use this module towards a degree such as the BSc (Hons) Nursing Practice.


Entry Requirements

  • Prior successful study at the underpinning level; cannot study at level 6 if already studied module at a different level; clinical facilitator in practice to sign-off competencies; opportunity to practise examination techniques in 4 of the 6 body systems.

The University may therefore raise tuition fees in the second or subsequent years of a course, in line with inflation and/or the maximum permitted by law or government policy.
