University Award Independent / Supplementary Prescribing for Allied Health Professionals Level 6

Course Overview

The overall aim of the programme is to provide a learning environment that supports registered allied health professionals to develop as competent prescribers who are then eligible to apply for annotation on the register of the Health and Care Professions Council as a AHP prescriber. The programme consists of 40 credits at Level 6. Students identify a Practice Educator with suitable equivalent qualifications for the programme to support the period of learning and assessment in clinical practice.

Entry Requirements

  • All entry criteria must be met in full prior to programme commencement.
  • Current professional registration as an allied health professional.
  • Registration with the HCPC for a minimum of three years prior to application for entry to the programme.
  • Evidence of a satisfactory enhanced disclosure clearance (DBS) within three years of the programme start date.
  • The academic ability to study at the level required for the programme.
  • The ability to practise safely and effectively at a level of proficiency appropriate to the programme and their intended area of prescribing practice.
  • Identification of a Practice Educator who meets the criteria for eligibility to undertake these roles.
  • That appropriate clinical governance arrangements are in place for practice as a Paramedic, Physiotherapist, Podiatrist or Therapeutic Radiographer.

Application Information

  • Application form: current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council, in one of the relevant Allied Health Professions eligible to prescribe, with three years’ relevant post-qualification experience in the clinical area in which you will be prescribing and working at advanced practitioner or equivalent level.
  • Applicants with current ‘fitness to practise’ issues (as defined by the HCPC) or health issues which may be impairing ‘fitness to practise’ will be managed in accordance with the conditions and sanctions of the regulatory body.
