Course Overview
This module aims to enable students to advance management skills and knowledge by providing the opportunity to synthesise management and leadership concepts, principles, skills, attitudes, and behaviours and critically apply these to managing and leading at an organisational/strategic level.

Entry Requirements
- Evidence of prior successful study at underpinning level
- 1st or 2nd class honours degree
- Students with other qualifications may be admitted to the course at the discretion of the programme leader
- Applicants must be a health or social care professional
- All applicants must complete a pre-entry study skills package such as “preparing for postgraduate study” if they are new to this level of study or have had a break from study for a period of 4 years

On successful completion, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate a coherent, comprehensive understanding of the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to enable effective leadership and management of a contemporary health care workforce
- Conceptualise and synthesise strategies involved in empowering and motivating individuals and teams in health care settings and the barriers - both perceived and real - that may prevent this
- Demonstrate conceptual knowledge and critical application of techniques to manage, promote, and enhance individual and team performance and development in order to ensure a quality service
- Critically reflect on the manager's role in relation to monitoring of quality, standards, and risk and apply this in the context of their own role and field of practice
- Undertake an in-depth critical reflection of their own management knowledge, skills, and behaviours in relation to managing at a strategic and organisational level - and engage in critical self-appraisal and reflection in order to demonstrate how they intend to address individual development needs and enhance their

Timetables
The teaching timetable should be available from the end of August. Access to the timetable is through the Student Hub – students will be able to access the Student Hub after they have completed online registration. The teaching day is 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday; please keep other commitments open until confirmation of the teaching timetable, and bear in mind that many courses will offer placements or fieldwork which sometimes extends into the evenings and weekends.
