BSc (Hons) Nursing/Registered Nurse: Adult Nursing

Overview

Our Adult Nursing degree equips you with the essential knowledge, skills, and experience needed to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate person-centred care across a variety of healthcare settings.


Course Structure

What you will learn

You will spend 50% of the programme on clinical placement being supervised and assessed by practice staff. The theoretical input is delivered by expert teaching staff and is based on the latest evidence and research, using a variety of teaching and learning approaches.


Year one

The first year of the BSc Adult Nursing Course is designed to introduce you to the concepts that underpin nursing practice. There are 6 academic modules this year in total, of equal academic weighting of 20 credits.

  • Developing Evidence-Based Practice
  • Introduction to Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • Concepts of Health and Social Policy
  • Introduction to Adult Nursing

Year two

The second year of the programme has 6 academic modules of 20 credits each with 2 practice placements. Year two is designed to support your development of knowledge and skills that were delivered in year one.


  • Pharmacology and Medicines Therapeutics
  • Living with Long Term Conditions across the Lifespan
  • Learning From the Lived Experience
  • Communication and Relationship Management in a Therapeutic Context
  • Primary Care and Community Practice
  • Secondary and Tertiary Care

Year three

The final year of the BSc Adult Nursing Programme will prepare you for the transition to NMC registration. This year is made up of five academic modules (four at 20 credits and one at 40 credits) and two practice placements.

Teaching & Assessment

How you will learn

A variety of teaching and learning methods are utilised on the BSc Nursing Programme. The methods of learning will vary from module to module and session to session.


How you will be assessed

The BSc Adult Nursing Programme utilises a variety of assessment methods. Each module assessment is required to be achieved and the method may be different with each module that you take.


Entry Requirements

  • 104-112 UCAS Tariff Points
  • GCSE English Language and mathematics at grade 4/C or above
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths and Adult Literacy and Numeracy are also accepted

Qualifications

  • A-levels: BCC-BBC
  • T-levels: P (C+) – M
  • Access to HE: 15 Credits at Distinction & 30 at Merit
  • CACHE Technical Level 3 and Level 3 Extended Diploma: C - B
  • OCR Cambridge Technical & Edexcel/Pearson BTEC Level 3 (National) Extended Diploma: MMM – DDM

Placement Information

  • Our placement and practice-based learning opportunities are designed to fully prepare you for registration as a qualified Adult Nurse and to help you develop the skills and knowledge required to work within the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) professional standards.
  • You will complete over 2,300 hours in health care settings, gaining hands-on experience in both community and acute clinical environments.
  • Our placement circuit is across a wide geographical area, primarily in the North West of England, and students are expected to travel up to 90 minutes to attend their placements.
