Program Overview
Module - Workplace Mental Health
This module aims to give the occupational health practitioner or other health care professional the knowledge with which to enhance mental wellbeing in the workplace and to help employees remain in work or return to work following an episode of mental ill health. This is module is part of the UADip, BSc Hons and Grad Dip courses in Occupational Health Practice Development. It can be studied as a stand-alone module for CPD.
Objectives
- Critically discuss the effects of mental ill and psychological health on the individual and the organisation.
- Show an awareness of local voluntary and statutory resources that can assist in the management of and maintenance of mental health in the workplace.
- Critically appraise the current literature surrounding employee assistance programmes and counselling.
- Critically analyse how learning from this module has transformed your understanding of your practice.
What you Will Learn
This module The module will introduce students to the benefits of positive mental health and how this may be enhanced within the workplace. Causes of mental ill health such as bereavement, stress and anxiety will be examined from a workplace context. You will be encouraged to investigate local resources that can assist the individual and the organisation when addressing issues of mental health in the workplace.
Teaching & Assessment
How you will learn
Online teaching and learning activities, synchronous online workshops, discussion boards, formative work and module leader feedback. Significant independent reading and study will be required to prepare for the summative assignment.
How you will be assessed
Summative assessment is by a 2500 word assignment. Participation in the formative components of the module is required to pass the module.

To be eligible to study this module, you must demonstrate the ability to study at this level and commit to attempting the assessment.
