Description

Good safety practices save you money. Human resources and safety personnel work closely together to ensure the safety of employees. This certificate will prepare people who work with the field of industrial safety but may not have the necessary knowledge to be fully operational in it, such as business managers and human resource officers, to enhance their role and make their workplace even safer.

• Environmental Health and Epidemiology - ENVM 510 This course provides you with the knowledge needed to undertake a public health investigation. You will learn how epidemiology is an important tool to evaluate how the diverse and dynamic elements of natural systems and human populations impact each other through an environmental safety and health lens. A background in biomedical science, statistics or advanced mathematics is suggested.
• ENVM 550 OSHA Law and Regulations - ENVM 550 Learn to relate Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) concerns to practical decision making in the environmental, safety and health field.
• Disaster and Emergency Management - ENVM 560 When disaster strikes a community must band together to take action. Learn how to create a systematic approach for emergency planning, incident command and response and recovery for organizations of all sizes that involves government agencies, the private sector and non-profits.
• Applied Safety Management - ENVM 570 Effective safety and health management involve the collective support of the corporate structure and employees. This course discusses management issues such as employee motivation, company culture, hazard recognition, evaluation and prevention, regulatory compliance, benchmarking performance, auditing and recordkeeping.
• ESH Quality Systems and Auditing - ENVM 583 This course provides an introduction to the management systems and quality-assurance methods used to enhance operational and compliance effectiveness in environmental and safety and health departments and programs. Surveyed topics include ISO 14000 and Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001 and related quality-management approaches.
• Industrial Hygiene Principles and Calculations - ENVM 605 This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of industrial hygiene evaluation and control. With the use of case studies and calculations, the student will become familiar with the principles of toxicology and behavior of gases, vapors and aerosols. Typical workplace applications involving standard preparation and calibration, use of gas laws to evaluate occupational exposure, and estimating ventilation flow for typical dilution and local exhaust ventilation will be illustrated throughout this course. Methods of evaluating thermal stress, noise and non-ionizing radiation will be illustrated with appropriate numerical methods. An introduction to the principles of and models employed in evaluating repetitive motion and cumulative trauma will be presented.
• Training and Development in Organization - EDHR 641 You have the plans, now you need a reliable team to execute it. In this course you will explore and discuss organizational issues, training needs and other topics such as an unprepared workforce, diversity, recession and issues generated by the class.
• Instructing the Adult Learner - EDHR 642 To be a good manager, you have to be able to set your employees up for success. Learn various teaching strategies, techniques and methods suitable for adult learners so you can train in an effective manner.
