Our BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design degree course is designed to help you develop the essential creative and technical skills, together with materials and construction knowledge, to create stunning interiors that are sustainable, inclusive and imaginative.

Course Structure

The course is structured to provide a comprehensive education in interior architecture and design, with a focus on creativity, sustainability, and technical skills.

Modules

Year 1

• Design Communication and Portfolio (40 credits): Learn to effectively communicate your creative vision and develop your architectural drawing and modeling skills.
• Design Fundamentals (40 credits): Take on design projects that challenge your creativity, encourage collaboration, and refine your problem-solving skills.
• Histories, Theories and Matters of Concern (20 credits): Evaluate influential histories and theories that have shaped architectural and design practices.
• Technology and Environment: Exploration (20 credits): Discover how design, context, climate, and construction connect in this introduction to architectural technology.

Year 2

• Body and Interior Space (20 credits): Examine the body’s relationship with constructed environments through an interdisciplinary lens.
• Communication: Creative Practice (20 credits): Boost your skills in architectural drawing and visual communication.
• Design: Adaptive Re-Use (20 credits): Learn how to refresh old buildings in an eco-friendly way.
• Design: Interior Investigation (20 credits): Work with a real site and a detailed brief to create fresh ideas for amazing spaces.

Year 3

• Interior: Major Project (40 credits): Bring together everything you have learned to create an exceptional interior design project.
• Design: Space, Detail, Atmosphere (20 credits): Craft three-dimensional designs embodying aesthetics and functionality.
• History and Theory: Dissertation (20 credits): Take control of your learning journey with this self-guided research module.
• Communication: Professional Identity (20 credits): Get ready for a career in interior design and build your own brand.
• Material Expression (20 credits): Get hands-on with interior materials and experiment with different materials.

• Architecture Studios: Our open-plan learning spaces encourage a studio culture of collaboration, creativity and dialogue.
• 3D Workshops: Our Workshops are ideal for model making, with high-grade kit for crafting wood, metal, plastics, polyurethane, concrete and plaster works.
• Printmaking and Letterpress: Use our traditional lino-printing, wood-cutting and monoprinting equipment for all your design and print needs.
• Fabric Workshop: Create, design, and work with textiles and fashion in our Fabric Workshop.
• Virtual Production and Mixed Reality Studio: Take centre stage in the futuristic world of extended reality (XR) with our SmartStage-powered Virtual Production and Mixed Reality Studio.

Course Costs and Funding

• Tuition fees (September 2025 start): £9,535 per year (may be subject to annual increase) for UK/Channel Islands and Isle of Man students, £9,535 per year (may be subject to annual increase) for EU students, and £17,200 per year (subject to annual increase) for international students.
• Additional course costs: These course-related costs aren’t included in the tuition fees, including accommodation and living costs, recommended reading, general costs, final year project, additional printing costs, and study trips.
