The MSc Maritime Studies Learning at Work Master's course is designed for individuals who want to boost their career prospects by studying for a maritime studies Master's degree alongside their current job. The course is work-based, allowing students to tailor their studies to match their personal and professional goals, as well as their employer's objectives.
Entry Requirements
- Qualifications or experience: A degree or equivalent, or other qualifications such as HNDs and Foundation degrees, supported by several years of relevant post-qualification experience in responsible posts.
- English language requirements: English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.0 with no component score below 5.5.
Costs and Funding
- Tuition fees: The tuition fee depends on the number of credits studied. To achieve a postgraduate Master's degree, students need to accumulate a total of 180 credits.
- 60 credits: £4,200
- 90 credits: £6,300
- 120 credits: £8,400
- 150 credits: £10,500
- 180 credits: £12,600
How You'll Study
- Learning Contract: Students will work with the Learning at Work team and their employer to arrange a programme of study that reflects their existing experience, personal and professional goals, and current employment situation.
- Work-based Learning Projects: Most of the new learning will be done through work-based learning projects, where students will practise new skills and develop their knowledge alongside their current role.
- Learning Modules: Students can also study in a more formally-structured manner by joining in with the university's academic modules.
Support While You Study
- Skills Support: Faculty Academic Skills Tutors (AST) are available for bookable 1-to-1 sessions, small group sessions, and online sessions.
- Additional Support and Disability Centre (ASDAC): The centre will give students help, support, and advice if they have a disability or need extra support.
- Workplace Mentor: Students will have a Workplace Mentor chosen by them, someone at work who can offer advice, guidance, and moral support.
- Academic Tutor: Students will have an Academic Tutor specialising in their area of study.
- Learning Manager: Students will have a Learning Manager who oversees their programme.
