Postgraduate Research in Dental and Oral Health
The University of Portsmouth offers postgraduate research degrees in Dental and Oral Health, providing students with the opportunity to contribute to pioneering work in the field. Dental & Oral Health PhDs and MPhils
Our pre-approved funded and self-funded PhD projects in Dental and Oral Health include:
- Investigation of impact of sugary and acidic foods on modifying acquired salivary pellicle and dental erosion
Students can also submit their own research idea and find a supervisor whose research interests match theirs.
PhD by Publication
A PhD by publication is a postgraduate research degree based on research already undertaken and published. Eligible research outputs include peer-reviewed academic papers, complete books or chapters in anthologies, and other materials accepted for publication, exhibited, or performed.
Duration, Fees, and Funding
- MPhil: 2 years full-time, 4 years part-time
- PhD: 3 years full-time, 6 years part-time
- PhD by Publication: 1 year part-time
Tuition fees vary depending on the start date and student status. For the February 2025 and April 2025 starts:
- UK, Channel Islands, and Isle of Man students: £4,786 per year (full-time), £2,393 per year (part-time)
- EU students: £4,786 per year (full-time), £2,393 per year (part-time)
- International students: £19,200 per year (full-time), £9,600 per year (part-time)
For the October 2025, February 2026, and April 2026 starts:
- UK, Channel Islands, and Isle of Man students: £5,006 per year (full-time), £2,503 per year (part-time)
- EU students: £5,006 per year (full-time), £2,503 per year (part-time)
- International students: £19,200 per year (full-time), £9,600 per year (part-time)
Entry Requirements
- Upper second-class honors degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
- Master's degree in an appropriate subject
- Equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications may be considered
- English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 with no component score below 6.0
Support and Facilities
Students will be supported by the Doctoral College, alongside an assigned supervisory team. The Doctoral College will help students become part of the thriving research community and grow their skills as researchers through the Graduate School Development Programme.
