Program Overview
The Global Short-Term Student Visiting Program (GSTSVP) is designed to foster cultural exchange, academic enrichment, and global networking opportunities. This program aligns with University Canada West's (UCW) commitment to providing a diverse and immersive educational experience to students from around the world.
Program Tracks
The GSTSVP offers two tracks tailored to the needs of international students:
- Language Enhancement Track: This track includes the development of specific academic skills such as essay writing, research methods, note-taking, critical thinking, and seminar or tutorial discussions.
- Language Course Description:
- Academic Listening/Speaking: Students practice listening and speaking for university classes and seminars. They learn how to listen to lectures and podcasts, identify and summarize main points and supporting details, and make meaningful notes.
- Academic Reading/Writing: Students develop their reading and writing skills for university classes and research. They learn how to use different stages in the writing process, analyze and use different styles, tones, and perspectives for their audience, and research, identify, and select relevant sources.
- Language Course Description:
- Academic Focus Track: This track allows students to delve deeper into their chosen academic disciplines, providing a rigorous academic experience aligned with UCW's curriculum standards.
Undergraduate Study Areas
Students can choose from the following disciplines:
- Accounting
- Psychology
- Business
- Quantitative Studies
- Communications
- Science
- Economics
- Social Justice & Criminology
- Finance
- Marketing
- Hospitality
- Other Arts & Humanities
Program Entry Requirements
- Participation Requirements: Students must be enrolled in a recognized degree program and obtain written consent from their institution to participate in the program.
- English Proficiency Requirements:
- To qualify for the Academic Focus Track:
- Students must achieve an IELTS Academic Score of 6.0 or higher, with a minimum score of 5.5 in the writing band.
- To qualify for the Language Enhancement Track:
- Students must achieve an IELTS Academic Score of 5.0 or higher, with a minimum band score of 4.5 in the writing band.
- To qualify for the Academic Focus Track:
Application Process
Students interested in participating in the UCW Global Short-Term Student Visiting Program must submit their applications either through their home institutions or independently.
Dates & Deadlines
- Summer 2025 Cohort:
- Application Deadline: March 6, 2025
- Program Start Date: July 7, 2025
- Program End Date: September 28, 2025 (3 months) or December 21, 2025 (6 months)
- Fall 2025 Cohort:
- Application Deadline: June 5, 2025
- Program Start Date: September 29, 2025
- Program End Date: December 21, 2025 (3 months) or (tentative) April 4, 2026 (6 months)
Fees
- 2025 International Tuition Fees for Academic Focus Track: $2,119 per course
- 2025 Tuition Fees for Language Enhancement Track: $5,198 (total for track courses)
- 2025 Fee for Exploring Canada: Culture, Industry & Innovation Course: $2,119
