Why study English language at Georgian?
At Georgian, flexible English language learning is our priority. Discover Georgian’s wide selection of English language learning, including our full-time and part-time study options, as well as English for Specific Purposes programming.
Digital innovation and flexible learning opportunities help our students succeed in higher education, work and life in Canada. Our English language programming combines intensive study with social and cultural activities, as well as fast and efficient progression.
Full-time English for Academic Purposes program
Our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program provides you with the skills you need for success in higher education, work and life in Canada.
The EAP program focuses on building English language skills, as well as preparing students to study in a postsecondary program. Each level in the program is comprised of three core courses – Speaking, Listening and Pronunciation, Reading and Vocabulary and Writing and Grammar – and one elective course, which varies from semester to semester).
The EAP program is an eight-level, intensive full-time program. The levels are split into non-credit and credit programming.
General English as a Second Language (ESLG)
Levels 1 to 4: Non-credit programming
This program helps you prepare for success in general English. You will participate in introductory level English language courses in the skill areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar and vocabulary, while also focusing on essential skills for success. Language learning is facilitated through classroom and technology-assisted learning, and an exploration of Canadian and intercultural contexts through everyday situations. You will learn through group work, discussions, and experiential learning outside the classroom.
General Arts and Science Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (EAPC)
Levels 5 to 8: Credit programming
This program helps you learn or improve your English, and prepares you for postsecondary study and future employment. You will develop English proficiency in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar and vocabulary, while also focusing on essential skills for success and communication in various academic and professional contexts. Language learning is facilitated through interactive activities, discussions, use of multimedia materials, in-class instruction and experiential learning outside the classroom, as well as an exploration of personal, abstract and global topics.
Tuition and fees for ESLG and EAPC programming
Tuition
Tuition fees fluctuate from semester to semester, as they are set by the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
The cost for each ESLG/EAPC session (one academic semester consists of two sessions) is outlined below:
- Approximately $1,300 for domestic students per session
- Approximately $3,000 for international students per session

How Georgian’s English levels work
All incoming students will be required to take Georgian’s English for Academic Purposes placement test to determine the appropriate level of study.
Students may also submit results from the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC; only public tests will be accepted), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to be used to determine placement.

Part-time ESL courses
Part-time English language courses are designed for individuals wishing to improve their English.
Part-time courses include the same quality curriculum with more flexibility. Learners can study at their own pace. Registration for these courses is done through the Continuing Education website.

Short-term English for Specific Purposes training
English for Specific Purposes (ESP) training is customized student-centred training for organizations seeking to build English language competencies in their workforce.
These programs are not available to the general public; they are developed with an organization’s specific needs in mind.

Our ESP framework meets the language needs of professions by focusing on sector-specific vocabulary and professional communication mediums. The curriculum is flexible, authentic and provides students with the opportunity to apply learning to real-life situations. Custom training programs are aligned with the development of language proficiencies in core skills such as speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students in our custom programs further develop their professional competencies with academic coursework in their industry.
