Overview

The Design Innovation and Fabrication Major is a course that focuses on the design and production of prototypes for various products, from mobile phones and furniture to children's toys and self-driving cars. This major is part of the Bachelor of Design program and is designed to equip students with the creative and technical skills needed to transform their ideas into cutting-edge creations.

Course Outline

• Qualification: Design Innovation and Fabrication Major
• Credit: A full-time study load usually consists of 200 credits (approximately eight units) per year, with 100 credits (approximately four units) in each semester.

Admission Criteria

• Current or previous University experience: Applicants with higher education are those whose highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a higher education course, such as a university degree.

• Higher education course switcher criteria: Our admission criteria for minimum entry apply to those who are switching courses from another higher education course provider.

• Apply discipline knowledge to critically review, analyze, consolidate, and contribute to evidence-based practice in product design.
• Demonstrate interdisciplinary cognitive and technical skills in both a broad understanding and depth in product design.
• Use and discern between a range of digital modeling technologies and media platforms in the production of innovative solutions based on user-centered experience.
• Demonstrate effective visual, oral, written, and technical communication appropriate to the product design discipline and apply effective self-directed learning skills.
• Demonstrate personal awareness of a product design-specific practice and sustain an engagement with contemporary design practices, production technologies, user experience, and the creative industries.
• Develop a predictive overview of future trends that will influence product design and digital modeling and fabrication practices.
• Recognize the importance of social, ethical, sustainability, and cultural diversity and consider local and international perspectives in product design activities, including both the studio practice and production techniques.
• Demonstrate how intercultural awareness and understanding impacts on personal and professional skills and on the ability to lead.
• Work independently and collaboratively on product design projects and respond to project demands.
