Mechatronic Engineering
Overview
This course is a major in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree.
As the world becomes increasingly automated, and the range of industries innovating through digital technologies expands, so do the opportunities for mechatronic engineers.
Mechatronic engineers now work in diverse industries including aerospace, agriculture, biotechnology, mining and energy resources.
Advances in automation applications – such as self-driving vehicles and mine site automation – are increasing the demand for mechatronic engineers with expertise in mechanical, electronic and computer systems engineering.
Numerous industries – including mining, transportation, agriculture and biomedical engineering – also require mechatronic engineers to work towards solutions for some of society’s most pressing problems.
In this major you will develop sound theoretical knowledge in the key disciplines of mechanics, electronics, computer systems and control. You’ll then apply your knowledge and develop practical skills through projects on topics including mobile robot communications and automation, pneumatic automation systems and machine control.
This course gives you the flexibility to study specialisations, to either deepen your knowledge in mechatronic engineering or broaden your expertise in other disciplines. See the full list of specialisations here.
Double Degrees
You can extend your expertise and career opportunities by studying Mechatronic Engineering as a double degree with Commerce, Computer Science or Innovation.
How This Course Will Make You Industry Ready
This major will equip you with a range of engineering skills and knowledge, enabling opportunities in mechanical design, instrumentation, automation, robotics and other fields.
