Continence and Pelvic Health Major (M ClinPhys)

Overview

The Continence and Pelvic Health major is available to study as part of the Master of Clinical Physiotherapy. This major provides an opportunity for you to become an expert clinician in pelvic health physiotherapy and its related areas of practice.

Continence and Pelvic Health Major (M ClinPhys)


Credit

A full-time study load usually consists of 200 credits (approximately eight units) per year, with 100 credits (approximately four units) in each semester.


What You'll Learn

  • Integrating evidence-based assessment and management of incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction and exercise rehabilitation across the lifespan
  • Communicate effectively with clients, community and industrial partners that enhances the assessment and management of individuals and pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Justify personal and professional knowledge, skills, attitudes and values, and the impact of these on the provision of continence and pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Apply international standards and practice in the assessment and management of incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Demonstrate respect for individual human rights and cultural diversity in promoting health and well-being in clinical and diverse populations/amongst clientele and peers
  • Appraise current and emerging technologies that are relevant to the field of continence and pelvic floor physiotherapy

Professional Recognition and Accreditation

If you are a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA), you can apply for the APA Titled Membership (APA Titled Member) on graduation.

Career Opportunities

Continence and pelvic health physiotherapists work as primary care clinicians in private practice and/or public hospitals, with men, women and children. Career opportunities include working within multidisciplinary teams in specialties such as urology, gynaecology, oncology, general surgery, sexual health, pain medicine and gerontology.


Health promotion, research opportunities, teaching and clinical tutoring jobs, flexible private practice, hospital or community-based jobs are some of the opportunities available following graduation.
