Program Overview

Master of Information Systems and Technology

Overview

Effective management of information and communication is critical to business success. This master degree will prepare you for careers leading and enhancing the ICT capabilities of organisations.

During the course you will gain technical skills in programming, data communications, database design, and system analysis and design.

You'll build expertise in the management and application of information systems and technology, and examine the impact of technology on the changing business environment – with a particular focus on AI and its adoption in business.

This degree gives you the choice of specialising in one of three areas of industry growth:

  • Data Analytics and Visualisation
  • Governance and Sustainability
  • Information Security.

Work-integrated learning is a strong component of this course, with opportunities for internships and study tours. You can also enhance your professional connections through networking events and engaging with industry guest lecturers. In addition, students in this course are eligible for membership of the Australian Computer Society – which offers many networking and continuing education opportunities.

You may choose to exit this course early with a Graduate Certificate in Information and Technology or a Graduate Certificate in Information Systems Management (once you have completed the units required for those qualifications).

What jobs can the Master of Information Systems and Technology lead to?

A 2024 report by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry predicted a shortfall of 130,000 digital expert workers by 2026. It found that while nine out of 10 businesses see the benefit of emerging technologies, one-third of those struggle to keep up with the changes.

This master degree will give you the expertise and confidence needed to meet the demand for digital experts who can help organisations leverage AI and other innovations to increase business productivity, strengthen security and enhance customer experience.

You'll graduate with the expertise for roles in a diverse range of industries, leveraging both your technical and leadership skills.
