Bachelor of Educational Studies

Overview

The Bachelor of Educational Studies is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to excel in various educational roles. This degree focuses on developing a deep understanding of the education curriculum, leadership, and research, preparing students for careers in education administration, management, and related fields.


Course Structure

  • Duration: Three years full-time study or equivalent part-time study.
  • Credit: A full-time study load usually consists of 200 credits (approximately eight units) per year, with 100 credits (approximately four units) in each semester.
  • Location: Curtin Perth.

Admission Criteria

ATAR Pathway

  • Guaranteed ATAR: 70.
  • Essential WACE subjects (prerequisites): None.
  • Desirable WACE subjects: Mathematics Applications ATAR (or equivalent).

Alternative Pathways

  • UniReady: If you don’t meet our minimum admission criteria, the UniReady Enabling Program can help you qualify for entry into a range of undergraduate courses.
  • Certificate IV + English Competency: The certificate IV is the minimum requirement for university entry. It qualifies you for entry to Curtin courses with a 70 ATAR. You must also meet English language proficiency and check that you meet any extra subject prerequisites (where applicable).
  • Indigenous applicant: If you’re an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicant who hasn’t met Curtin’s minimum admissions criteria, the Centre for Aboriginal Studies offers bridging courses that are tailored to help you gain entry into this course.
  • STAT entry: The Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) is a national test for those who don't meet university admission criteria. STAT can be used to meet entry criteria for some courses, or as a way to satisfy Curtin’s English proficiency requirements.

Fees and Scholarships

  • Australian and New Zealand student indicative fees (2025 Fee year): $4,600* (Commonwealth supported).
  • Fees are indicative first year only and are subject to passage of legislation.
  • The indicative first-year fee is calculated on 200 credit points, which is the typical full-time study load per year, however some courses require additional study to be completed, in which case the fee will be higher than that shown.

Other Requirements and Notes

  • This course includes core studies, elective and optional units. Students are able to undertake electives and optional units to specialise in an area of interest.
  • Various assessments throughout the course may require students to work with infants, children or young people in family or community-based settings. Students will be required to have a current and valid Working with Children clearance as required by the state or country in which the placement provider is located.
  • Entry to this course will not be possible based on Professional Experience only; this is consistent with current practice for courses in the School of Education.
  • Credit for recognised learning (CRL): Finish your course sooner with credit for your previous study or work experience.
